Chungbuk International Martial Arts and Action Film Festival Opening August 29th in Chungju | |

![]() [Cheongju / Newsis] by Cheon Young Jun The Chungbuk International Martial Arts and Action Film Festival opens on August 29th and runs to September 2nd in Chungju and Cheongju. The theme is "Martial arts changing the history of film." The three-day event is hosted by the Chungbuk Cultural Foundation. It will feature 50 martial arts and action films from 25 different nations. The categories are "Korean Action: Hall of Honor" "Women's Action Old and New" "The Tale of Zatoichi Continues" and "Documentary, the Record of Action" Celebrated action director and Chungbuk native Jeong Chang-hwa will make an appearance and meet with the audience. There will also be a special martial arts seminar and program to with the audience hosted by the Chungju World Martial Arts Mastership. To promote martial art and action movies, there are plans for auditions for martial artists and a 5 minute short action film contest exhibit. ![]() The first day of the Film Festival will be held in the Chungju World Martial Arts Park with an opening speech provided by movie actors Kim In-kwon and Sunwoo Sun. The poster art is from Kenji Misumi's "The Tale of Zatoichi" (1962) featuring actor Shintaro Katsu. The film festival runs concurrently with the 2019 Chungju World Martial Arts Mastership. Films can be viewd in the Cheongju CGV(Seonmunjum) and the Chungju CINE Q.
